More progress on aviation security

Created on 19th of November 2008

On 8th August 2008, Croatia was approved by the Commission as the second country from which air passengers transferring at an EU airport may take their duty-free liquids on board their connection flights.

Singapore was the first country to have its security standards approved by the European Commission, under Regulation (EC) 915/2007. The arrangement with Croatia became effective from 20th August 2008, and means that passengers arriving from six Croatian airports (Dubrovnik, Rijeka, Pula, Split, Zadar and Zagreb), and transferring at an EU airport, may carry their duty-free liquids, aerosols and gels on board their connecting flights when sealed in an ICAO approved tamper evident bag.

It is expected that decisions will also be made soon on applications from the US (one way for EU-bound passengers) and Canada; a further 14 countries have applications pending with the European Commission.
