Cabin Baggage RestrictionsCreated on 19th of August 2010 Last Modified on the 23rd of September 2010 A number of airlines have adopted the practice of only allowing passengers to take one item of hand luggage into the aircraft cabin. This means that all purchases made by passengers at the airport have to be placed within their single item of hand luggage before they can board the aircraft. This is a matter of some concern to the travel retail trade across the EU as it is having a significant adverse impact on sales at airport shops. Part of this is due to uncertainty, as the practice is not universal - it is only applied by some airlines and some of these apply it sporadically, with it being enforced at some airports and not at others. The inevitable uncertainty is deterring many passengers from making purchases, particularly as a significant proportion of them have insufficient space in their cabin bag to also accommodate such purchases. Possible solutions to the problem are currently being examined by ETRC in conjunction with ACI (Airports Council International). |
