Zürich traffic up 30% as sales grow by +12%

Zürich Airport has reported passenger traffic up 29.8% in April to just over 2m passengers, while year-to-date passenger numbers grew by 10.5%. At the same time, total net sales to consumers rose by 12.2% in April to Swf.39.5m ($44.21m).

JTI Qtr1 sales grow by 4%

Japan Tobacco International reports that core net sales (excluding tax) grew by 4.4% in the first quarter of 2011, driven primarily by pricing and volume increases, while at constant rates of exchange, JTI's sales (excluding tax) grew by 6.5%.

BA and union agree new terms to end strikes

As reported yesterday, British Airways and its cabin crew union Unite have agreed terms to end three years of industrial action which have cost the airline £150m ($245m) to date from 22 days of strikes, although the settlement package is still to be ratified when it is put to a ballot of the 10,000 members.

House rejects scanner spend

The US House of Representatives yesterday rejected the Obama administration's claim for $76m to pay for 275 additional airport full-body scanners and to hire personnel to run them. Republicans said their rejection reflected the need for fiscal restraint.
