'..most profitable company in the TR industry'

Hellenic Duty Free Shops' General Director George Velentzas says that HDFS still remains 'the most profitable company in the Travel Retail Industry', with HY1 earnings before tax up by 9.7% to E.21.6m ($27.3m) despite an -8.9% sales decline to E.93m ($117.5m).

Mexicana ceases flying

Leading Mexican airline Mexicana de Aviacion ceased all operations at the weekend after the Tenedora K consortium examined the books and subsequently decided not to invest fresh capital into the ailing airline or its two budget carriers, Link and Click.

Dubai handled a record 4.3m passengers

Dubai International Airport handled a total of 4,307,926 passengers in July compared to 3,768,965 in July 2009, a year-on-year increase of 14.3%. The year-to-date traffic reached 26,862,371, up 16% compared to 23,166,054 in the corresponding period in 2009. The closest the airport has ever previously come to the 4m-passenger level was in March 2010 when total traffic for that month reached 3,968,672.

Retail sales up 19% to $75m at Abu Dhabi

The Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) reports that its first half retail turnover at Abu Dhabi International Airport rose by 19% to $75m in the first six months of 2010. This follows ADAC's impressive retail sales turnover of $136.2m in 2009 and ADAC is now on target to reach the expected $170m sales turnover mark by the end of 2010.

Vienna revenue up 3.5%

The Flughafen Wien Group (Vienna Airport) recorded revenues up 3.5% to E.253.2m ($321m) in the first half of 2010, with net profit up 11.6% to E.38.1m ($48.3m) outpacing traffic growth and EBITDA up 6.9% to E.85.7m ($108.6m) and EBIT up 12.7% to E.52.6m ($66.7m) for the reporting period. The Retail & Properties Segment reported a 2.3% increase in revenue to E.44.7m ($56.6m).

Schiphol commercial outperforms HY1 traffic

The Schiphol Group has reported net revenue of E.545m ($693m) and a net result of E.69.2m ($88m) for the first six months of 2010, with its Consumer Business division revenue (including all retail) rising by 2.8% to E.137.6m ($174.9m) and outperforming traffic, while its Aviation business division saw total revenues fall by -3.6% to E.318.1m ($404.5m).
